The party has started! Oktoberfest in Sabang is in full swing
The celebrations for the inaugural Oktoberfest in Sabang, Puerto Galera are now in full swing after a fabulous launch on Thursday night.
The party atmosphere started to build throughout the day on Thursday, as stalls were erected, barrels and crates of beer delivered, hot plates fired up, bunting hung, and the finishing nuts and bolts put in place on carnival rides which include a flying elephants carousel and a Ferris wheel.
As night fell the music from the main tent in the centre of the boardwalk provided a soundtrack of upbeat reggae and modern dance classics for the throngs of people, both locals and tourists, who descended onto the boardwalk to sample the delights on offer.
Stalls selling everything from t-shirts to shish kebabs, sunglasses to German sausages, and crepes to cocktails looked to be doing a roaring trade, alongside entrepreneurial salesmen young and old with candyfloss, helium balloons and freshly roasted nuts.
Our own LLV food truck, placed among the centre of the crowds, looked to be doing a roaring trade – your humble blogger can report that the Bacon & Raclette savoury crepe was a particularly tasty snack which helped soak up some of the homemade cocktails on offer elsewhere on the promenade!
The festival, in honour of Puerto Galera’s forthcoming official naming as the Diving Capital of the Philippines, will run until October 8.
It features carnival rides, parlous games, a singing competition, Bavarian dancing, beer contests, fantastic live musical acts and more than 40 food and product stalls lined up along the boardwalk in Sabang.
Highlights from the festival will include live entertainment from the likes of Chansa and Natural High, and Filipino rock superstar Dong Abay will be our special guest through October 6, 7, and 8, headlining in the main tent.
And October 5 will see Puerto Galera officially named the Dive Capital of the Philippines, with a day’s festivities including a community dive, a diving bazaar, and a huge evening party with firework displays and live music
